Industrial Archeaology
The richness of the material heritage connected to marble quarrying and working has furnished a large quantity of manufactures in use until the beginnings of the twentieth century in the quarries and studios of Carrara.
The presence of industrial artefacts in this section supplements the display of the large machines situated in the Museum garden. Tools for quarrying, cutting and measuring, the collection of technical drawings and important antique photographs constitute a precious testimony to processes of marble quarrying and working which have since been overtaken by modern methods. The historic memory of the region is, in part, founded upon these humble objects of daily use: through them it is possible to reconstruct the links between the quarries and the studios, the quarry-worker and the artist and the industry and art of the Apuan region.
